Mindful Body, Mindful Thoughts
By Ivana Samuels
The Nvolve program has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. I have never participated, let alone made a podcast on my own. As interesting as they sound, I never imagined myself having my very own podcast! Navigating the Anchor.fm platform for podcast creations was a new experience. I enjoyed how user friendly it was. It assured me that anyone is capable of making a podcast if they wish.
When the project first started, I devoted myself to two topics that I wanted to learn more about and then present. However, as the end of the project approached, I changed one topic. I went from sebaceous glands (small glands in the skin) to the relationship between stress and the brain. After listening to a discussion online about the brain, heart, and stress, I knew this is what I wanted to talk about. I learned about the affected regions in the brain, and why recalling information can be difficult during an exam. Since starting college, I've been passionate about skin and the dermatology field. Learning about melanocytes in my Cell Biology course sparked an interest in knowing more about these pigment-producing cells. I learned the difference between the "3 M's" and how they're connected. I'm thankful for the support of the Nvolve program, and Dr. Zouridis, the technology project coordinator, who encouraged me along the way.
