Meet The Graduate

Read what Ashley Pattammady has to say

Pursuing my personal interest in drug development and data analysis, I graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Minor in Chemistry. From interning at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory to being admitted to graduate school to pursue a Master's of Public Health in Biostatistics, I am excited to continue achieving my goals.

A first-generation STEM college student, I joined Nvolve in August 2021 to engage in innovative research projects, professional mentoring, and networking.

Through Nvolve’s Science and Technology Program, I participated in multiple challenging projects, including researching current novel breast cancer biomarkers and creating a data visualization dashboard using the World Health Organization’s air pollution data. I was also part of the core project team that built a mental health mobile app named MoodZen. It is undeniable that these experiences made me more confident and ambitious to pursue new projects.

I also learned from Nvolve’s weekly huddles on career development, leadership, and critical thinking. I enjoyed hearing about my fellow scholars’ perspectives and the lessons they learned along their STEM journeys.

Not only did Nvolve enhance my research, communication, and technical skills but it opened the door to an amazing community of inspiring women in STEM. For two years, my Nvolve mentor, Maggie Rougier Chapman, supported me with mentoring that positively shaped my career goals. Maggie provided me with one-on-one advice to help prepare for interviews, internships, and graduate school applications. Words cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for her encouragement and guidance.

As I graduate from Nvolve, I remind my fellow scholars and women in STEM to stay curious and never let anyone stop you from reaching your full potential!

Meet the Mentor: Maggie Chapman

As the Vice President of Marketing at Labcorp, a member of Nvolve's board of directors, and a mentor to two aspiring scholars, I have come to understand the significance of diversity in STEM education and the unique challenges that women face navigating the biotech industry. It is this understanding that has ignited a deep passion within me to guide and nurture the next generation of female STEM leaders.

My mentee, Ashley, has recently graduated from the University of Maryland and is about to embark on an exciting new academic journey in biostatistics at the graduate level. She embodies the very essence of excellence and possesses many admirable qualities that make her shine brightly.

But it is not only her academic competence that sets her apart. Ashley's heart is filled with genuine kindness and compassion, creating a warm and supportive environment for those around her.

Ashley possesses a remarkable ability to think critically and make well-informed decisions. Her bravery and willingness to step out of her comfort zone have been pivotal in her continuous growth and development.

To Ashley, I want to express my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude. It has been an honor and privilege to be a part of your journey.
